"Officially Eliminated"

Okay, so I knew it was coming, but it's still hard to swallow. Apparently the "powers that be", whoever that is, does not believe that teaching parenting, life skills, and English classes to poverty-level families is necessary. My job is in the "fluff" category. Maybe the people who make these decisions should come into my classroom for one day. They should see the differences we make in the lives of these families. If you're listening Mr. Schwarzenagger or President Obama, this is an open invitation. Come and look in the faces of the little children who will no longer have someone to love them, encourage them, and believe in them. To give them a box of crayons when they don't have any, buy them shoes when theirs are so small their toenails are bleeding, or to find them dental insurance when their teeth are rotting out of their heads. Please come and see the confidence that "my Mommy's" have on their faces when they help their children with their homework and go to parent conferences with me by their side encouraging them to fight for their children. Come and talk to the Mommys and children who could not speak one word of English at the beginning of the school year, and are now having conversations with me in English. I'll miss my families terribly. They have truly accepted me into their lives, I know all of their ups and their downs. I have been there for surgeries, deaths of family members, and new babies. I PRAY TO GOD that what I have given to them over the past several years will stick with them.

HUGELY Grateful!!

*photo of two of the greatest gifts in my life!!!

I am HUGELY grateful for the best Mother in the World. She is a supportive friend, an unbelieveable grandma, and the most generous person I know. She once drove around for 45 minutes looking for a homeless man that she made lunch for on a street corner. He looked hungry, so she went home and made him a sack lunch. She was so upset when she couldn't find him.

I am also blessed to have my Grandma, she lives in Kansas, whom I adore, cherish, and love. She will be 90 years old next summer...we're planning a BIG party!

Lastly, and mostly, I am honored to be the Mother of two of the greatest kids on the planet. Each day with them is a gift which I do not take for granted! I take my job as Mommy very seriously. I know my boys are the most important things in my life. Darrell and I are extremely grateful to be their parents...I'm not sure why I am so blessed...but I can assure you that I am EXTREMELY GRATEFUL.

Happy Mother's Day to all the awesome Mother's out there. It's a tough job, but the rewards are countless. Love to all of you!

Fun With Chalk

Today Darrell, Nathan, and I went to the Chalk Festival in our city. It was amazing what these artists were creating with chalk. They had food, music, and various city organizations. We live in a great place, the weather was beautiful! This boy, Michael Chen, lived nearby and went to my Mom's school. He passed away recently, but had participated in this event for many years in the past. The entire festival was dedicated to his memory.
The colors and shading are unbelieveable. These are beautiful, brightly colored roses.
There were over 100 artist in attendance. How can so many people be so creative?
Some were cartooney (is that a word) and some were more realistic looking...all were amazing!
Look at these colors. My back would be killing me if I tried to something like this, and I bet my fingernails would not be happy.
I made Nathan sit on the other side so you can see the size...you can tell he is really happy to be there.
Two of the loves of my life. The third on is too cool to go to Art Festivals with us.

Vacuum Cleaners

Okay, I'll just say it...I love VACUUM CLEANERS!! I use them every day, in some way. This is "Big Red." I keep it plugged in in the garage and use it constantly. I vacuum the dirt from the boys baseball uniforms up, the dirt and debris that it's in the garage before it gets into the house, and I use it outside in the flowerbeds and porch. It's so much easier that sweeping and then putting the junk in the trash...I just wait until the giant red bucket is full, and pour it into the green waste can. Love it.
These are my floor vacuums. The one on the left is for the carpet...duh...and the red one is for the hardwood and tile. The red one I use almost everyday, it picks up Molly's food bits...she's messy. Love them!
Okay, this is my least favorite, but I still use it.
Small vacuum for the cars...
Floor sweeper for a quick clean-up if someone's coming over in one minute...
Does anyone know of a Vacuum Anonymous meeting in my area?? I think I have a problem...

Stop and Smell the Roses

I am so excited that my flowers are starting to bloom. I love to be in the garden...one of my favorite places. I have a small rose area in my back yard that was planted by the previous owner, I gently pruned and fertilized and they finally started to bloom last year. It is extremely gratifying when the rose buds start to show. Summer will be here soon!!
